Hmmm, not one warning that 3D Grips are a potentional danger for design intent. A simple 3D Grips edit can destroy parametric dimensions without any warning at all. The equations are simply overwritten with a static value.

Also, 3D Grips performed on part which come from the Design Accelerator are being recognized by the Design Accelerator. If the same part is reloaded into the Design Accelerator, any 3D Grips edits are lost (the Design Accelerator will load the old data).

Untill 3D Grips honor parametric equations and untill the Design Accelerator includes 3D Grips edits on generated parts, I advice all users to use 3D Grips with the utmost care.

Keep your eye on all sketches

There's no way to edit my post, and I found an spelling error...

Hi Amy,

I am very interrested in hearing your point-of-view.

Thanks,

Teun

Don't feel sorry for the late reply!

There are more Inventor users which would like to see the 3D Grips disabled for the time being (Sean Dotson for example). 3D Grips are especially dangerous for new users who don't understand the complexity in sketch formula's, design intent, etc. Autodesk gave them the tool to destroy any equation with a simple 3D Grip edit, without any warning!!!

We should have more control over 3D Grips. This has been mentioned bu several persons during the IV10 Beta. 3D Grips should not overwrite any equation without any warning. There must come a setting to disable the use of 3D Grips.

I hope that IV11 allows better control what 3D Grips can and can't do.

Thanks!
