We are running a short survey on a few Inventor features, specifically Design Assistant, Design Tracking and Inventor's multi-user environments. (e.g. Semi-Isolated, Shared and Vault). We would like to know if you are using them and what you like about them. This short survey should only take a few minutes to complete. You can use the following link to take the survey.
I'm here at an AIP workflow review with George Hudetz, a product designer on AIP. I've been to Japan may times and the novelty just never wears off. Inventor is localized into 12 languages and the UI looks cool in all them. All the buttons are in the same place, so I can even pretend to read these languages. Check out this image of the AIP Cable and Harness panel bar in Japanese. (click on it for a larger image.)
I've also learned of some addition resources around the world. Check out these links:
The Vault team has put together a series of 1 hour web casts that show you how Autodesk® Vault, an application that is integrated with Autodesk Inventor® and Autodesk Inventor® Professional, helps synchronize workgroup efforts for fast, accurate sharing of design data across your manufacturing team.

I receive many questions from customers about the ability to control what's selected during window/crossing-window select in drawings. Here's how it works: By default, Autodesk Inventor will select everything within the window including the drawing view itself, which may be unwanted behavior. You can set a selection filter to control which objects are selected during a selection task. Inventor ships with the following predefined filters in Drawing Manager:
-Select All - select everything within the drawing (default)
- Layout Filters - filters the selection for any item that has to do with the layout of the drawing, i.e. Draft Views, Views, Section Lines, etc.
- Detail Filters - filters the selection for any item related to annotations, i.e. dimensions, text, symbols, etc.
-Custom Filters - allows you to set which objects to filter for such as: center lines, hole notes, hole tables, dimensions, etc.
As a quick example, let's say you wanted to select all balloons within your drawing. Simply go to the Filters pull down and select 'Edit Select Filters', select Balloon (make sure only Balloon is selected). Now when you do any selection, Inventor will only select balloons.
Another source of useful Inventor information is the monthly column we write for Cadalyst magazine. Kevin Schnieder from our Tech Marketing group usually writes these, but I did write one on linking ACAD E and AIP a while back.
Additionally, the tips, tricks and downloads on the www.cadforum.cz site also comes highly recommended. It has a lot of content in English and Czech and some German. the English Inventor Tips can be found at:
